Mongolian DepartmentMongolian Department is the former Mongolian specialty set up in 1952 that is one of the earliest ethnic minority language specialties enrolling across the country after the founding of new China. It was affiliated with the Language Department of Central University of Nationalities at that time, which is divided into the first, the second and the third department of ethnic minority language in 1986, and Mongolian Department together with Korean Department and Tibetan Department belong to the first department. The Mongolian Department was formally founded in Jan 1995. It is one of the key specialties of State Ethnic Affairs Commission, which provides doctor degree education and master degree education. Of the 21 staff members, there are 17 full-time and part-time teachers, 6 Administration officers (2 part-time, 4 full-time); 9 persons of the teaching staff have their senior professional title, 3 persons have their associate high title,6 persons obtain doctorate and 9 persons have master degree ( 2 persons are Ph.D. Candidates); There are 5 doctor advisors, 7 master supervisors; persons with senior professional titles account for 76% of the totality of teachers, persons with master’s degree and above account for 88%. The department embraces Teaching Affair Office, Administration Office, Party and Youth League Office, Mongolian literature staff room, Mongolian language staff room, Mongolian folk-custom staff room and Mongolian Study Institution etc. Since the day the Mongolian Department was founded over 50 years ago, the total number of its graduates has reached 1131, 801 of whom are undergraduates, 113 are junior college students, 71 are graduates, 132 are graduates equivalent, 14 are doctors. The graduates of Mongolian Department are talented youth of Meng, Han, Man, Dawoer, Ewenke, and Xibo and other ethnic minorities, coming from Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai etc. Now they are making positive contributions for the development and flourish of ethnic economy and culture around China, especially the ethnic minorities’ area. Presently there are 164 Bachelor’s degree candidates, 22 master’s degree candidates and 15 Ph.D. Candidates. For the past few decades, Mongolian Department has always stuck to the principle: give equal attention to teaching and research, research deepens teaching, research boosts teaching, which has gained sustainable results. In the latest 10 years, the department has shouldered 5 research subjects of national level, 3 research subjects of provincial and ministerial level and several transversal cooperation subjects and subjects of university level. The department is pride of its about 60 formally published books, more than 400 academic papers, over 40 work wining the prize above university level. Part of the research outcomes of some experts and professors have formed its own system, displays its unique feature and advantage and gains recognition of the Mongolian study community, enjoying great prestige and popularity. Some of the academic systems have reached the first class level in China, such as Professor Man Duhu’s Theory of Mongolian Folk Literature, Professor He Xige’s Study on Mongolian Literature, Professor Wang Mantega’s Mongolian Literature Theory, Criticism and Research of Modern Mongolian Literature Theory, Professor Wu Yue’s Study of Inzannashi and His Works, Professor Wu Liji’s Study of Cultural Relations between Mongolian and Tibetan, Professor Mu Jila’s Comparative Study of Mongolian Mythology, Professor Sa Rengerile’s Costume Culture Research of Mongolian Lama in Qinghai, Professor Hu Gejifu’s Research of Art Image of Mongolian Folk Literature. These works have produced great impact in domestic and foreign academic community, and the circulation and the academic value has fully demonstrated the strength of the teaching staff and the academic level. In order to carry on the academic exchange activities more successfully, enliven and enrich the teaching research, Mongolian Department have been developing active academic exchange and cooperation. At present the department has set up cooperative relationship with universities and research institutes such as National University of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar University, Culture and Art University of Mongolia, Language Study Institute of Science and Technology University of Mongolia. Every year teachers of cooperative universities are dispatched to the other side for the teaching research communication. Also, Mongolian Department sponsors domestic and international academic conference and encourage teachers to participate in academic activities of various level and relative specialty, making good conditions for the flow of the teaching research information. All the teachers and students of Mongolian Department, one of the characteristic specialties of Central University of Nationalities, are full of confidence and decide to work even harder, bringing the characteristics and advantages into full play and making their own contribution for the aim of becoming the world class university for nationalities. Mongolian Department Goal of Education Our goal is to nurture the talents, who are well developed morally, intellectually and physically, prepared for the socialist modernization of our country, equipped with both the solid foundation of specialty and basic knowledge, skill and ability of independent research and work, is qualified for the teaching and research of Mongolian Language, can work in Party and government organs, culture and news units, enterprises and institutions undertaking the works relative to Mongolian as editor, news reporter, clerk, propagandist, translator, manager etc. In other words, our goal is to cultivate all-rounded, flexible, combined talent. Occupation and Further Study Prospect The talent cultivation of Mongolian Department adapts well to the new situation of the domestic and international economy and culture development. Graduates of Mongolian Department enjoy broad employment channel and great space for further study, and will be qualified for the work of Mongolian teaching and research, and the relative works such as editor, news reporter, clerk, propagandist, translator, manager etc in Party and government organs, culture and news units, enterprises and institutions. The employment rate of the latest years has overrun 90%. The fields for further study include: Mongolian Literature, Mongolian semantic, Modern Mongolian Study, Traditional Mongolian study, Mongolian Literature, Mongolian Literature Theory, and Mongolian Comparative Literature, Mongolian Folk Literature. Special attention has been paid to the international exchange and cooperation for the latest several years, broadening the channel for further study. Education characteristics Mongolian Department of Central University of Nationalities is one of the earliest specialties set up of the field, taking lead in Mongolian Document, Mongolian Literature Theory, and Mongolian Folk Literature etc. Main courses include: Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese Language, History of Chinese Modern/Contemporary Literature, Linguistics, Literature Theory, Computer, Crillic Mongolian, Mongolian Writing, Brief History of Mongolian Nationality, History of Mongolian Characters, Modern Mongolian Language, History of Mongolian Literature, Mongolian Document, History of Foreign Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, Mongolian Folk Literature, Brief History of Ancient Chinese Literature etc. The specialty study concentrates on the rudiments of the specialty, requires of the students the mastery and application ability of Chinese, Foreign language and computer, and improves the creation, practice and competition ability of the students. Mongolian Department recruits arts and science minority-ethnic students attending examination for ethnic minorities. The qualified graduate students will be awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Literature. |
